3 Night/4 Day Coach Trip to Salou 19th - 22nd September 2022
Our first visit today was to the Carthusian Monastery of Escaladei. The journey up to the monastery had fantastic views, but the winding roads were a little scary at times. But we made it and it was well worth a visit. The first fathers, lay brothers and Donati arrived in 1218. The monastery was inhabited for over 600 years until 1835 when the seizure of church property was enforced by the Mendizábel, meaning the Carthusian land was confiscated and they were forced to leave. A few days later the monastery burnt down. Some of the stone was put to good use and built the village of Escaladei. In 1989 after a long and drawn out administrative process the group of Carthusian ruins were declared an asset of national interest. Finally in 1989, the former proprietors donated the whole complex to the ministry of the Catalan government, who took over the management and opened it for visits by the public and began the painstaking restoration which continues to this day.
We continued on to be Reus, home of Gaudi for lunch and a mooch around the old town
Our trip today to us to Sama park. Created in 1881 for residence of the Sama family, marquise de Marianao. The park has 14 hectares of botanical gardens with a huge lake in the middle and many hidden gems! It has been declared cultural asset of National interest. With deer, peacocks exotic birds and hedgehogs, the park is proud to be involved in many conservation projects. We then travelled on 15 minutes to Cambrils, a beach resort for a spot of lunch and stroll.
A stop off for a coffee on our way home . And Benicasim has a fiesta day. Totally unexpected with a little parade starts. I pinched the photos from John N Linda Kelly as we were too busy chatting to Richard over a coffee . And we were late for the coach again lol 😂
I think I managed to thank everyone who joined us on our trip to Salou. We’ve all had a real blast with new friendships being made along the way. Thats what our Association is all about. Richard has kept us entertained on the coach, and our lovely driver Bernardo kept us safe. Thank you Rosa Tours Watch this space for our 2023 plans
